Lets start with some websites you can use. Our goal is to provide you with the link as well as, why to use it, when to use it, and how to use it.
First up is ALLDATA Collision
The why:
ALLDATA is full of very usful information. ALLDATA® is the industry’s #1 choice for unedited OEM automotive repair and collision information. Founded in 1986, the Elk Grove, Calif.-based company has more than 115,000 subscribers worldwide who rely on ALLDATA for OEM-accurate mechanical and collision repair information, shop management software, and training.
The when:
In our opinion it is benficial to go to ALLDATA with every estimate. You can find everything from OEM Position Statements to step by step OEM Procedures.
The How:
ALLDATA is a paid site. You will need a subscription to use it. Once subscribed you will be able to enter the VIN. Some information can be difficult find at times, but as a subscriber you can get support.
DEGWEB
The why:
The Database Enhancement Gateway (DEG) helps improve the information in collision repair estimates through your feedback about vehicle-specific repairs, omissions, and inaccuracies in the database and labor times.
They also have links to OEM owners manuals.
The when:
Any time you have an issue within your estimating platform such as no labor time listed, unknown if the labor is included or not, parts missing, etc. You can go to DEGWEB and submit an inquiry. DEGWEB will then investigate your issue and work with the estimate platform to resolve it.
I often go to DEGWEB just to access the OEM Owners manual. You can find a link called "Estimators Tool Box". Once you clck that look for the "Owners Manuals" link. I use this for a lot of things, but if you take some time you can usually find positions statements in the manuals.
The how:
DEGWEB is a free site. Simply use the link provided and use it as you need.
OEM1STOP
The why:
OEM1Stop is intended to provide vehicle repair technicians with easy access to the most up-to-date repair information made available by each of its participating automakers.
There is no registration required for OEM1Stop itself, however, on each participating automaker's page you'll find buttons directing you to that manufacturer's repair information websites. Each of those sites is operated independently by the respective automaker, and each requires its own registration/login process. These sites may also require the purchase of daily/weekly/monthly/annual subscriptions to access repair information.
The when:
This is another one of those that we will recommend to be used as much as possible. You will link to all of the OEM sites here and most of them offer 1 time access fees. These fees can be billed to the customer or insuarance company on your estimate. Just remember to attach the invoice.
The how:
OEM1STOP is free, but has links to paid sites. Use our link below
